GLAAD: Fair, Accurate and Inclusive Representation!
At last the winner of the first people's choice (!) award in GLAAD Media Awards history, the Favourite OUT Image of 2003 Award, announced yesterday . "Eden Riegel" won the award for "All My Children". As someone who voted in this award and followed the online poll, if I was not blind, until last day "Randy Harrison" for playing Justin in Queer as folk was at first place with 23% of votes and "Gale Harold" for Playing Brian was at second place with 22% of votes. I don't know what happened in back stage but now I have some doubts about fairness and accuracy of GLAAD. Queer as Folk was winner of GLAAD best drama series award in 2001 and 2002, and so I don't want to have prejudice and convict GLAAD before they answer us why this happened (And I also must confess that I appreciate GLADD activities and efforts and sort of like them). But I think despite everything Queer as Folk is our OUT IMAGE. Despite all of its flaws, it is the only show that portrait us as real humans. And that is the reason why even when official Showtime website doesn't permit visitors from outside US to view it's content, Queer as Folk has one of greatest online communities. Justin is Out Image of our generation. We learn from him to be great queers, whether they like it or not.
